This massive creation by Dutch designer Tord Boontje is the first solo US exhibition of his work, and the final episode of a trilogy based on his exploration of the myths inherent in universal fairy tales. (The first, "Happy Ever After", premiered at the 2004 Salone del Mobile, and the second, "Forever", in London during 100% Design.) This new work continues his exploration of hand-crafted historical ornament, innovations in textile production, and intersections of craft and industry, mythology and narrative in contemporary design.
Presented by Moroso, Italy, The End is a collaboration between Boontje and Moss, and has been especially designed for the dimensions of the new gallery. The evening's live performance by opera singer Anthony Roth Costanzo accompanied by Chun Wei Kang was presented courtesy of House & Garden. Additional funding for this exhibition was provided by The Mondriaan Foundation and by the Consulate General of the Netherlands in New York City.
The End runs from Wednesday Feb 9 through Sunday March 20.
